Senior Property Accountant

Job Locations US-TX-Austin

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Property Accountant is responsible for the accounting of a number of commercial shopping centers.  The company also has some office, residential properties, and some development projects; however, the main focus of the company is commercial retail.

As the Senior Property Accountant, one is held accountable to, however not limited to, the following job functions:

  • Responsible for all tenant billings and ledger maintenance. Works closely with the Property Manager.
  • Reviews, approves, and posts all cash receipts and application of cash.
  • Reviews all property related invoices and assures they are accurately coded.
  • Prepare property-level financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain rent rolls, aging reports, and supporting Excel schedules.
  • Prepare a monthly budget vs actual variance analysis.
  • Prepare annual property-level budgets and forecasts.
  • Working directly with external auditors’ inquiries.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual CAM reconciliations and supporting documentation for tenant billings.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors of Science in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited university
  • 4 years of experience in the shopping center industry and real estate accounting

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. .
  • High degree of integrity
  • Some overtime will be necessary at quarter-end and budget times

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience with MRI, Sage, and MS Excel
  • Experience in the shopping center industry
  • Proven ability to expand areas of knowledge and learn new skills as circumstances require
