To support our growth, we are looking for a Manager, Environmental Initiatives to join our Sustainability team. The Manager, Environmental Initiatives is a key position within ShopCore’s sustainability team that will be responsible for driving ShopCore’s progress on its environmental initiatives with a substantial focus on renewable energy. This individual is responsible for managing key environmental initiatives and projects, ensuring day-to-day success and progress toward our goals. The preferred location for this position is in our corporate headquarters in Chicago, IL, but may also be located in our Atlanta, GA, Philadelphia, PA, or San Diego, CA office.

What you will do:

  • Work with the Director of Sustainability to identify additional ways to infuse environmental sustainability into all aspects of the business
  • Work with the Director of Sustainability to align and mobilize ShopCore’s executive leadership team and ESG Steering Committee around a common set of short-, medium-, and long-term goals and associated implementation pathways that amplify the work of ShopCore’s employee-led committees
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day implementation of ShopCore’s environmental impact projects and initiatives resulting from the strategy and goal-setting process, both internally within ShopCore and externally at ShopCore’s properties, with a substantial focus on renewable energy, including on-site solar project development, and work with the Director of Sustainability to resolve related issues as they arise
  • Assist the Director of Sustainability with identifying and pursuing relationship development with potential renewable energy project partners
  • Lead development of renewable energy project investment pro formas and presentation to internal leaders for buy-in and approval, with oversight from the Director of Sustainability
  • Additional active projects the Environmental Projects Manager may assist with implementing include electric vehicle charging stations, lighting retrofits, waste materials management, and sustainable design and construction
  • Partner with key stakeholders within the team and across the organization to align efforts and activities to align with ShopCore’s environmental sustainability commitments (e.g. property management, asset management, leasing, legal, finance, marketing, etc.)
  • Employ effective data-driven communications that serve to explain the business case for environmental sustainability initiatives and find common ground with the priorities of the audience
  • Assist the Director of Sustainability in developing and overseeing environmental impact metrics to measure progress and success, particularly pertaining to renewable energy projects implementation
  • Gather and interpret data and analytics to help the organization understand progress, including leading and lagging indicators
  • Assist the Director of Sustainability with identifying means to benchmark and improve across all environmental sustainability initiatives, including emissions, climate, energy, water, waste, biodiversity, and embodied carbon in project development and construction
  • Work with the Marketing team and the Director of Sustainability to craft internal and external environmental sustainability communications related to project initiatives
  • Manage environmental sustainability-related reporting requirements on a quarterly and annual basis pertaining to the Manager’s projects, as required by ShopCore’s investors and external reporting frameworks

What you should have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related or complementary environmental sustainability field is preferred
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in environmental impact, environmental sustainability, or corporate sustainability, with a substantial emphasis on renewable energy project development
  • Thorough knowledge of the regulatory environment surrounding renewable energy development, including an understanding of how to navigate location-specific utility operators and suppliers
  • Demonstrated experience building renewable energy project investment pro formas to include anticipated capital expenditures, incentives, utility rates, capitalization rates, and return on investment
  • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across offices and teams
  • Ability to leverage high emotional intelligence to build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Strong time management skills with ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Superior analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and all Microsoft Office applications
